The Challenges That Artists Face (feat. Why The Heck Not)

We introduced you to Why The Heck Not two weeks ago. While asking him some questions for that post, he revealed some interesting insight into the challenges of being a new artist trying to enter the scene. Instead of jam-packing it into the previous post, I’ve decided to share that transcript with you here.

Firstly, the competition. It is the general rule of thumb to be supportive of all artists and all the styles and techniques and general aesthetics that come out of it (and of course, it is not without reason – we should always strive to support our fellow artist companions).

Introducing Why The Heck Not

Note: Details at the end of the post about a very special project!

Why The Heck Not may seem like an odd name for a person to give themselves, but in the case of this student cum aspiring artist, it sums up his foray into the world of arts perfectly.

We first worked with him on our fourth Question Time with Eleven Tsuki. His art style was both cartoon and dynamic, and dare I say, so was his person. Talking with him, one could easily tell the excitement he had for his interests and the passion he harboured towards furthering his craft.

Since we’ll be working him even more in the future, I think it’s a good time to let our readers get acquainted with him as well. Who is the person behind Why The Heck Not? Let’s find out!

Interview With Reiko Asahiru

Note: Reiko also did the cover art for our Question Time with Eleven Tsuki #1, check it out!

This might be our first time interviewing a local artist that is so connected with the ACG community. Nevertheless we are proud to present you Aishah AKA Reiko Asahiru. She is a  graduate from The One Academy and is currently working as a freelance designer / lead deisgner, whilst working on establishing her own studio, Emshack Studio. She has recently joined the Malaysian Comickers Challenge (MCC) and managed to walk away as the First Runner Up.  We managed to ask her a few questions after Comic Fiesta Day 2 about her and the current state of Malaysian artists.

Interview with Kristina Nguyen

It might just be me, but it seems like with every year that passes, the special guest list for Comic Fiesta just keeps getting more and more impressive. For their 14th year, they brought in musicians, artists, game developers, and cosplayers from around the world. You can find the full list here.

Among the guests that we had the honour to interview was Kristina Nguyen, Art Director for RWBY Volume 2 and Concept Artist for Volume 1. RWBY (pronounced ‘ruby’), if you don’t know, is an American animated web series created by the late Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth Productions. Since it’s release in 2013, it has become a viral hit among animation fans and cosplayers alike. It is currently at Volume 3.
